For shipping and storage needs, 10 ft containers are popular among small business owners, shipping professionals, and DIY fans. They offer a flexible and cost effective option for many uses. However, it’s important to know the different grades and conditions of these containers to make the right choice when buying one.
10 ft Container Conditions
NEW ONE TRIP
“One Trip” containers might have a few dents and scratches because they’ve traveled across the ocean. They are built in Asia and shipped worldwide. To save on costs, we use these brand-new containers only once, filling them with goods for a single trip. This helps us save money, which we pass on to our customers.
USED
Our best sellers are the used general-purpose containers, which can handle tough jobs for 5 to 15 years before we stop using them. Most of these containers still have their original paint and shipping company markings, showing their authenticity. They might look a bit worn out, with some rust, dents, and scratches, but that’s just proof of their extensive use.
REFURBISHED
Even if used containers don’t look great on the outside or inside, they’re still strong and can be used for many purposes like transporting goods and storing items. Refurbished containers are ones we’ve improved to look nicer and last longer. They’re called Wind and Water Tight (WWT) because they keep wind and water out. We have three levels of refurbishment for these containers:
- Typical refurbishment – We repaint the exterior. This involves removing any flaking rust with a wire brush, applying primer to exposed metal, and then painting the whole outside, including the roof. We usually paint over parts like locks, seals, and labels.
- Full refurbishment – Similar to typical refurbishment but we paint the interior as well.
- Factory refurbishment – This is a complete makeover. We repaint both the inside and outside, replace old gaskets with new ones, and add new labels to the container.
10ft Shipping Container Grades
These grades help you understand the quality and structure of 10 ft shipping containers from
On-Site Storage Solutions. This grading system simplifies identifying the container’s grade
IICL (IICL-6)
An IICL container meets strict standards by the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL), making it perfect for exporting goods. These top-grade containers are in excellent condition and mark free than a WWT container.
WIND AND WATER TIGHT
Our most popular product, the Wind and Water Tight (WWT) containers, are used containers that we guarantee won’t leak. Although they are leak-proof, these containers often show signs of wear like faded paint, rust, dents, and scratches because they were used for heavy shipping.
CARGO WORTHY (CW)
Cargo-worthy containers are inspected and certified for their strength to handle overseas shipping by sea, rail, and road. Despite showing signs of wear and tear such as original paint, old shipping labels, surface rust, scratches, and dents on their exteriors, they meet the necessary standards. For export purposes, they require a survey and a valid CSC plate inspection sticker.
AS IS
An “As Is” container is one with major damage, including major dents, making it too costly to repair to be wind and watertight. These containers often have significant interior and exterior issues, such as holes and damaged floors. We generally advise against purchasing an “As Is” container unless its intended use doesn’t require structural integrity or aesthetic appeal.
