Carl was the mastermind behind this remarkable hybrid home, which is half composed of three used shipping containers and the other built conventionally with pillars to support its hovering presence above his couple’s restaurant. He crafted much of it himself such as welding large portions together and innovatively executing DIY features that make it truly unique.
It took an entire nine years to complete this 3 bedroom, 320 sqm home into reality from designing it, getting approvals and finally building completion. The containers were modified offsite with all cut-outs done beforehand as well as spray foam insulation beneath them before they were delivered and placed using a crane. One of the biggest obstacles was finding a way to insulate the containers while connecting them to another structure, dropping them between two buildings via an alleyway that was too narrow for their size.
