When Steger initially decided to start his business, he had a food truck in mind. However, thanks to the recommendation of his son’s barber, he began looking into setting up shop at Cargo District. Little did Steger know that starting a brick and mortar store would be just as cost-effective! He soon moved Mess Hall into the Bespoke space when their original downtown location took precedence. In December 2019, Steger started work on revamping the kitchen.
At the Mess Hall, unlike other restaurants that specialize in concocting exotic burgers and unusual topping combinations, menu is deliberately kept minimal. There are only three burger options available but if you’re not up for a beef patty there’s always an incredible chicken sandwich dripping with fried tenders doused with hot honey sauce and garnished with pickled onions. For those who prefer a plant-based diet, they offer a vegan burger crafted with carefully selected ingredients such as black beans, brown rice, walnuts, mushrooms, onions and panko all smothered in locally produced Kind Cultures vegan cheese.Mess Hall opens from 11am to 9pm, Monday through Saturday.
